- Nate turned 5 months old today...
- Happy 5 months little boy!
- I FINALLY found a TMX Elmo! Yipee! Yahoo!
- I was filling Nate's prescription at Target this morning and decided to stroll the aisles looking for a few things I could get Nate for Christmas. I couldn't believe my eyes! There were four of them sitting on the shelf. I grabbed two - one for Nate and one for someone yet to be determined. I'm sure there's somebody I work with or that Jesse works with looking for one.
- Today was the first snow of the season where I live.
- Our office closed at 3:00pm today so everyone could try to beat the weather. It's still coming down. Hopefully it'll let up so the roads can be cleared or else rush hour will be hell tomorrow.
I wish I had the "eye" and knew how to pose people and take excellent shots everytime, but we can't all be good at photography. That's why I love digital photography. You can take as many photos as you want and not waste money developing the not so good ones.
I tried some new effects on these photos too. The first one is glow. The second one is blur. The third one is obviously black & white. The last one doesn't have any effects.
Rebecca is coming over Saturday to take our family portraits in front of the tree. Hopefully Nate is cooperative. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
I'm sure everyone that's in been in a long relationship has heard the famous question...
"When are you two getting married?"
Now, how about a famous quote...
If I had a nickel for everytime someone asked me that, I'd be rich! :)
When asked that question, I told people we wanted to keep it interesting and walk through life backwards. Get a place together, have a baby, then get married.
Did you know that nearly 4 out of 10 babies are born out of wedlock? Interesting...
I just finished watching about the secret language of babies on Oprah.
Priscilla Dunstan, a mom from Australia with a special gift, says she's unlocked the secret language of babies.
After testing her baby language theory on more than 1,000 infants
around the world, Priscilla says there are five words that all babies
0–3 months old say—regardless of race and culture:
- Neh="I'm hungry"
- Owh="I'm sleepy"
- Heh="I'm experiencing discomfort"
- Eair="I have lower gas"
- Eh="I need to burp"

She's exactly right if you think about it. I wish I would've known this 4 months ago when I was up at night crying with my baby because I couldn't figure out how to console him! :) In time, I learned what all his sounds meant, but it sure would've been nice to know this upfront.
Normally, I'm very easy going and not much stresses me out. I'd say I'm like a duck...everything just rolls off my back. Yesterday, that was not the case.
I think it started with the buildup of waiting for Nate's test results ALL DAMN DAY. Why don't doctor's offices understand this? I'm sure they have kids and know how stressful it is NOT knowing. I called and left a message at 1:00pm because I still hadn't heard anything. Then, I called and spoke with the receptionist at 4:45pm. It was Friday and there was no way in hell I was waiting an entire weekend. Right after that Nate threw up his entire dinner and I started panicking. This is when we decided to screw it and take him to the emergency room.
While we were driving, the doctor's office finally called back - 5:15pm and said that his RSV tests were negative and that his x-rays showed a little bronchiolitis. They said if he wasn't improving we should take him to Children's Mercy. I felt like saying...no shit sherlock...we're already on our way.
So, we pull into the parking lot of Children's Mercy and the security guard informed us that they don't open for another 20 minutes. WHAT?! Thank God if wasn't life threatening and he could wait 20 minutes.
Diagnosis: 103 temperature, double ear infection, and phnemonia
Treatment: Tylenol, stronger antibiotic, breathing treatment, lots of mama milk, hugs and kisses
Outcome: He's doing MUCH better today...should be all good and completely well next week
Check out the video we got of Nate Laughing Out Loud. I posted it to his blog.
Since Nate was born, I've had the luxury of being able to tote him around everywhere with me without him making much of a fuss. Today I was determined to go buy some new clothes that actually fit and were not maternity wear.
Those of you that have children know what I'm talking about....you wear maternity clothes AFTER you give birth because none of your skinny clothes fit!
So... I packed him up and drove off to Kohls (I LOVE this store btw). As soon as we got in the store, he starts screaming, so I pop a binky in his mouth since that always seems to work. No such luck though because he continues to scream. Not just cries, but loud shrieks that exclaim...help me! help me! The kind where everyone stops to stare. I continue going down the list of things that help soothe him...pick him up, pat his bottom, sway from side to side, put him in the sling facing me, put him in the sling facing out...nothing is working! At this point, I'm so frazzled that I decide to give up and go back home. I load Nate up, start driving out of the parking lot, look back and he's sound asleep like nothing ever happened. It figures!
My sister comments... "Welcome to motherhood."
Ah well, I guess we all have our crabby days. At least he's a happy baby most of the time!
We went shopping at Costco over the weekend.
Does anyone else love this place as much as I do? They have some pretty cool stuff!
Anyway...I was waiting in line to check out and Jesse was in the aisle holding Nate. Every time I looked up at them, there was someone new ooohing and aaaahing over Nate. For the whole five minutes I had to wait in line, there were at least 8 different people that stopped to comment. I started to wonder if this happens to all parents. Does everyone have complete strangers come up to them and want to touch and look at their baby? I can't imagine if you were famous and had a child! Now I know why they never go out in public!
On another note...Going back to work after a holiday weekend sucks. It was chaos as usual. I think people have either a) killed too many brain cells drinking from the open bars at our company parties or b) my temper is shorter and stupid people get the best of me. Sometimes you wonder how people think for themselves when they get home because you've spent the entire day thinking for them.
I wonder how much this guy makes in a day...maybe I should change professions :)
